For the redevelopment of the East Hall (the main air-side departure hall), Meinhardt provided a world-class team and produced an innovative design to meet the Authority’s retail ambitions. The East Hall project was conceived to enhance passenger circulation and satisfaction, and to optimise retail revenue, but within operational constraints.

Meinhardt integrated retail experts into the team right from the pre-design stages. We afforded retail optimisation great importance, taking on-board the client considerations on target demographics, retail mix and flexible tenancy sizes amongst others.

Meinhardt managed the entire process and provided all the associated engineering design and specialist support services.

HKIA was voted as the World’s Best Airport 2003 for the fifth straight year (Skytrax Research, London) coinciding with the construction period. The East Hall was completed ahead of schedule in December 2003 and has exceeded all expectations since.
